Assisted Living
Assisted living that keeps up.
Care, pricing and openings compared, so you tour less.
Assisted living is for someone who can’t manage everything alone but doesn’t need a nurse at the bedside around the clock. They have their own apartment or room, meals are provided, and staff help with the daily tasks that have become hard: bathing, dressing, toileting, getting around and taking medications on time.
The Phoenix area has a great many assisted living communities, and the differences that matter rarely show on a website. How care levels are priced, who is on duty at night, and what happens when needs increase vary widely from one place to the next. That is the research we do for you.
It may be time if your loved one…
- Needs help with bathing, dressing, grooming or getting around
- Is missing medications or finding them hard to manage
- Has stopped cooking or isn’t eating well
- Is lonely or isolated at home
- Has had a fall, or a near miss, that worried everyone
How we help
- Learn what help is needed now, including at night, and what is likely to change
- Shortlist communities licensed and staffed for that level of care
- Get current pricing, including care fees that aren’t on the brochure
- Book tours, come along if you’d like, and compare notes afterward
- Help with paperwork and the move-in timeline
Paying for it
Most families pay for assisted living privately, from savings, income, the sale of a home or long-term care insurance. ALTCS, Arizona’s Medicaid long-term care program, and some VA benefits can help with the cost of care for people who qualify. We talk through the options with you before you tour.
Common questions
Is assisted living the same as a nursing home?
No. A nursing home, or skilled nursing facility, provides medical care from licensed nurses around the clock. Assisted living provides help with daily living in a more residential setting. Many people who assume they need a nursing home are well served by assisted living, but the community has to confirm it can meet the person’s needs.
How quickly can someone move in?
It depends on openings and on the community’s own assessment. When there is a vacancy and the paperwork is ready, a move can happen within days. We tell you up front which communities have room.
